Kicking off Thursday, with close to 3,000 exhibitors the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is the world's largest consumer tech tradeshow.

Dwarfing Disneyworld according to some, 110,000 people are registered to attend this week despite the current money crunch.

Speaking of Disneyworld: dedicated 3D networks were just announced to be launched in US by Discovery and ESPN, so we'll check out the new TV sets with 3D capabilities (you'll still need 3D glasses though). Many TV sets and boxes will also be ready to stream Youtube and online video.

Other latest will include the $500 Nexus One smart phone (Google's very first hardware); improved locator services, alternative energy technologies (a desktop hydrogen fueling device!) and smart cars assisting in crash avoidance and driver drowsiness detection.

For practical expedition use we'll check out new Netbooks and tablets such a Notion's tablet computer for outdoor reading, and e-readers such as the QUE. Guy Kawasaki will reportedly be in place, while Apple is holding their tablet launch until after the event to adapt to competition.

Tech bigwigs such as Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer and Intel’s Paul Otellini are scheduled for speeches. A range of other industry topics is to be covered such as how to monetize new media and the increasing issues of spectrum allocation.

Stay tuned!
