Re-run: Antenna Alert from the South Pole Station and ALE to the expeditions
Posted: Nov 09, 2009 03:34 am EST
(ThePoles.com) The 7-km Antenna at the South Pole Station is still active and ALE and the South Pole Station management recommend that the skiers circle around the entire antenna line.
ALE's David Rootes told ExplorersWeb that for next season (2010-11) there are some moves under the ASMA (Antarctic Specially Managed Area) for changing how they manage tourists at the Pole.
“Nothing will happen this season,” said David, “but there are plans to move the tourist camp site to a new location further away from station buildings, and to introduce a new access route into the Pole that will go E of the antenna (rather than W as now).”
