The French couple, Yves and Olivia Chaloin reached Europe's northernmost tip, North Cape in Norway, the 20th of January. In a snowstorm and temperatures far below zero. On a specially made bicycle.

A fantastic holiday

"It has been a fantastic holiday" , Yves told local media after arriving at North Cape; "We have experienced so much these two months. At times it was demanding, but nothing beats the feeling of continuously moving forward."

Their trip started in December at their home at the foot of the Jura Mountains, located in the north eastern part of France. Since than, they have cycled almost 2000 km:s to reach their goal at the tip of Norway.

"We used buses and trains some parts of the first stretch, but once we reached Finland" the couple told media; "We have cycled all the way."

Temperatures below -31 and snowstorms

The last month put them through quite a few snow storms, temperatures down to -31 and snow as deep as 15 inches. The couple traveled on a special bicycle, where one of them cycle, the other one sits comfortably in the front. Yves writes on his homepage:

"The hardest part is stopping. Than you start freezing immediately. It is, of course, colder for the one who isn´t doing the actual cycling."

Impossible to fulfill oneself in comfort

They reached their goal North Cape, the 20th of January, in a snowstorm, after spending the night in the tunnel which connects the island with the main land. They were the only one´s there and enjoyed that special feeling immensely. They are both in favor of travelling when the climate is at its harshest level. And they are planning to continue to do this, because they need it to feel alive as human beings. As Yves writes on his blog:

"It is impossible to fulfill oneself in comfort, one gets lost in it. One is overfed and becomes disabled lack of difficulty means boredom. The harder the effort is, the better it is. Once it is time to rest, I sometimes feel like achieving unattainable goals. "
