A New Kind of 3D

3D displays without glasses
A laser display sends ultrathin laser beams directly to individual viewers’ eyes, with full sunlight readability to create a realistic 3D illusion that changes as viewers walk around the virtual object.

Current 3D movies only show two different pictures — one slightly different for each eye. The new display can create hundreds or thousands of pictures — one for each viewing location (or viewer).

Vienna physicists have designed a prototype to prove concept and commercial launch is scheduled for 2016 targeting electronic billboards (with up to 70m visibility) and new types of 3D movies.
