Supermoon: Watch it tonight


Biggest in almost 70 years

It breaks up the ice and terrorizes North Pole skiers; it helped Columbus get the Arawaks in line; it lights the way out at sea: The moon – especially in its extreme phases – is always as major part of exploration. Folks out at Antarctica won’t see it (the night is gone) but you could and if you do, congratulations, tonight the moon – originally a cutoff piece from the Earth – will snuggle back up to us closer than it’s been for nearly 70 years.
