Winter Gasherbrum I watch - Saturday: Alex and the Poles in BC, search ahead?

(Angela Benavides) Alex Txikon finally arrived in BC at 11:30pm yesterday. Alex sustains mild frostbite on nose and toes, which he however describes as "nothing serious".

Tamara Stys chose to stay for the night in C1. She is slowly descending to BC at the moment of publishing this update.

Main concerns come from the lack of news from Gerfried Goschl, Cedric Hahlen and Nisar Hussain. Last time they were seen climbing towards the summit on the peak's suth side: Polish Adam and Janusz spotted them as they reached the top from the normal route (north side) at 8:30 in the morning yesterday. There's been no further contact or sighting since then.

Ready to go up if needed

Alex Txikon said he was considering "to go up and search for them," if there was no news soon. However, weather conditions have turned for the worse again. In addition, climbers in BC don't know on which side of the mountain their mates are. Further news is expected soon.

Polish just arrived

The Polish team members have just arrived back in BC, according to a short note on FaceBook.

Summiteers Adam and Janusz reached C2 at 5:00pm, local time yesterday.Team leader Artur Hajzer and Shaheen Baig where there to greet them and escort them down.

Details are expected on the climb, the descent and the climbers' state as well as, of course, news from Gerfried's group.
