(Newsdesk) Yannick Gagneret perished on Makalu, Ferran Latorre's team told ExplorersWeb. Latorre and Ralph Schweizer helped Yannick down from Camp 2 (7400 meter) on May 2nd. Showing obvious signs of cerebral oedema in camp 1 the climber was administered emergency medications before descending further with his friends. Sadly Yannick passed before base camp. Read Ferran's account of the rescue .

Yannick's homepage  starts with a quote by the late mountaineer Erhard Loretan:

"I'm not suicidal.

I'm afraid of dying, especially how to die.

This fear is my life insurance.

I do not want to know my limits,

because the day I will know,

I will not go to talk about it."

Erhard passed 3 years ago.

Camera man for Spanish Al Filo de lo Imposible mountaineering TV series, accomplished rock climber and high altitude mountaineer Ferran Latorre sacrificed his own summit bid on K2 in 2004 to save Juanito Oiarzabal's life.
