(HET) The world is changing and so is HumanEdgeTech. For years we brought you the best gear out there. In 2013 we are expanding the choices, partnering up with the five leading solar brands.
Becoming the world's largest one-stop-shop for mobile solar power, we offer all panels at low MAP pricing (the same price Amazon aims at).
This shift is a first step in our effort to connect explorers with not just the best solutions but also the best brands, and technology in context: the ultimate power brand for Everest might not be the same for for skiing across Greenland or sailing the Atlantic.
Choose between more than 100 of the world's best power products. A quick guide to Solar 2013, by brand:
Arizona based Globalsolar have had a tough year. Cutting 70% of its work force Sunlinq are marching on and the CIGS panels are now available at HET.
Focus on consumer ease of use has made GoalZero the fastest growing mobile solar company today. Monocrystalline technology. Great battery combos.
Our first thinfilm solar panel still offers the lightest panels on the market. Pioneers of Thin Film Amorphous Silicon.
Solid power brand with both solar and battery solutions based in Wyoming. Wide range of solar technologies.
HumanEdgeTech co-branding with FTL. CIGS high efficency thinfilm panels. Focus on lightweight and small area. Lightweight battery solutions such as HET P50. (Note: Feather panels are temporary out of stock.)
All brands and panels at HumanEdgeTech.
Choosing the best panel
GoalZero use first generation monocrystalline technology (hard panels). The other brands use different types of second generation thinfilm technology (soft panels).
Simply put, monocrystalline panels are heavier but tend to be more area efficient (smaller) and cheaper.
Say for example that you need a 30 Watt panel. How should you choose?
GoalZero would be your cheapest option: Escape 30 (5.4 kg) sells for $299.
Powerfilm/Brunton would be your lightest option: A 30 Watt panel weighs 1.8 kg and sells for $425. The panel would however also be the largest panel by size.
The most effective weight/area combination would be a Feather or Sunlinq 30 at $539.
Space may be a lesser issue in a mountain base camp while weight might be secondary on a yacht. Both factors can be of major importance on a trek. In other instances, low price may be all you need.
How to charge
Smaller devices such as satellite- or smart phones can be charged straight from panel. Larger devices such as computers require a battery in between to harness the power.
