Norwegian trail runner Ida Amelie Robsahm died on Saturday after a fall on Romsdalseggen, one of western Norway’s best-known walking ridges. She was 30 years old.
According to NRK, police were alerted on Saturday morning that someone had fallen close to the high point of Romsdalseggen, above the resort town of Andalsnes. Robsahm fell several dozen meters. A rescue helicopter airlifted her away but she could not be saved.
The ridge tops out at 1,329m. Her companion, Miguel Benitez, raised the alarm. Norwegian police have treated the incident as an accident.
Robsahm was a rising star who had moved into the world elite after only a few seasons.
In December 2025, she made an impressive debut in Valencia with a marathon time of 2:29:57. This year, she reached her peak form, finishing 4th at Zegama-Aizkorri, 2nd at the Marathon du Mont-Blanc, and 5th on the OCC 60km at the UTMB finals in August.
Away from racing, she taught chemistry and mathematics at a secondary school in Oslo.
The death comes less than three weeks after Canadian skyrunner Kalie McCrystal, 38, of Squamish, British Columbia, died on the Matterhorn. McCrystal had reached the summit during a reconnaissance for a planned speed attempt on the Italian side and disappeared on the descent.
