Despite a huge effort and nine days on the mountain, bad conditions prevented the Czech team from reaching the summit of Muchu Chhish. Back in town, the climbers have confirmed that they did not make the summit.
Loose snow that the team described as “pearls” or “mini snowballs” made progress impossible.
“For three days we tried to somehow pass through this mass, but it was in vain. There was no strength left for more attempts. After careful consideration, we preferred to turn back,” they said.
The team managed to reach the summit ridge at 7,200m but couldn’t make the 7,453m summit to top out.
This was the second attempt on Muchu Chhish for Tomas Petrecek and Pavel Bem, and the third (including an exploratory trip in 2019) for leader Pavel Korinek. Radoslav Groh was on his first attempt.
“Returning to Muchu is a dirty word for now, but maybe that will change when we all eat properly,” the climbers said about a possible next round against the highest unclimbed peak in Pakistan.
