Marek Holecek and Raroslav Groh still have to draw on their stoicism and patience. Snow and wind at their 7,000m bivouac have worsened since yesterday.
This marks their eighth night on Baruntse. “We survived another hellish night under heavy snowfall,” Holecek reported over the almost-drained satellite phone. “We had to constantly dig the tent out of the snow.”
And yet they are alive and still strong enough to attempt to downclimb tomorrow if the weather improves as forecast.
Stay strong! if anyone can do it – it’s you guys!
They will be fine.weather will improve on Saturday for them to make a safe descent.Marek has survived hellish bivouacs on gasherbrum 1 too.he is a master at survival.
I think the snows have eaten many a master of survival… but I hope you are right.
Thank you Angela for keeping us updated on these guys!!!
I know these guys are experienced pros, but I will breathe a huge sigh of relief once they get safely down. Your updates are greatly appreciated.
They’re coming down! (see Marek’s facebook)
They’ll make it down. Marek is a master and has been in similar situations multiple times – almost 5 times on Gasherbrum 1 and most recently on Chamlang!
Meanwhile the clowns (Sherpas not included) on Everest couldn’t tie their own shoelaces even if their life depended on it.
