More Karakorum Drama Unfolding

In addition to the avalanche that struck an Italian expedition in the Hindu Kush earlier today, two Chinese climbers, Li Haoxin Chen and Ka Kit Ng, are missing on a technical 6,400m peak in the Liligo Glacier/Trango Towers area.

According to Alpine Adventure Pakistan and Mountain.ru, a third team member who had remained in Base Camp sent out an S.O.S. after his mates failed to return yesterday as planned. They were last heard from on June 14.

Weather permitting, the Pakistani military will run two search operations tomorrow, for both the the avalanche victim from the Italian expedition and the Chinese pair, aided by their partner from Base Camp, who will show the pilots the climbers’ planned route.
