Chamonix bans BASE wingsuit jumping

Until further notice

Chamonix mayor, Eric Fournier, recently signed a provision that BASE jumping with wingsuit is suspended in the area until further notice. Officials call for regulations regarding management and planning of takeoff, proper landing spots, flight lines and safety standards during flight.

Desnivel reports the decision comes on the heels of five deaths in the Chamonix area thus far this year, latest by a Russian pilot crashing into a house early October. One of the great European capitals for BASE jumping, the area had about 2,000 jumps made this year in the municipality.
