Dozens of Everest Climbers Summit During a Pocket Window

Although most climbers plan to summit Everest from May 18 onward, some groups have jumped on a momentary decrease in the wind today to summit Everest.

At least 35 summits

Seven Summit Treks reports summit success for a group of nine Chinese nationals, one Japanese, and 12 supporting Sherpas.

The large Alpomania team outfitted by 8K Expeditions and led by Valentyn Sypavin and double 14×8,000m summiter Sanu Sherpa also summited. Besides Sypavin, the team included five fellow Ukrainians and six Sherpa guides besides Sanu.

On neighboring Lhotse, Winter K2 summiter Sona Sherpa and Dawa Chhiring Sherpa, working for 14 Peaks Expedition, have led two Russian women to the summit.

The jet stream lifted slightly today, decreasing the wind for several hours. It should now blow strongly for at least the next two days, but there still may be a sprinkling of summits.

Countless summits ahead

Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition have 103 climbers on Everest and the same number of Sherpa high-altitude supporters. 8K Expeditions has over 50 clients. Many of them are positioned in the higher camps, waiting to jump to the top as soon as possible. So are climbers from several other teams.

Good conditions and a not-too-crowded route on summit day have become less of a priority for many climbers. They simply want to reach the summit as soon as possible.
