Jobo Garu 2017 Expedition. A rope on the Roof of the World

To start blocks the new expedition of the Explora Nunaat International team.

On October 12, Rome, the Italian Expedition Team “Jobo Garu 2017”, which once again sees Explora Nunaat International* in the Rolwaling Region, in continuity with the projects “Earth Mater 2011” and “Nepal – Gaurishankar 2013 “.

The “Jobo Garu 2017” expedition, in agreement with the Government of Nepal, aims at the construction of the “Via Ferrata Drolambau Ice Fall” at a height of 5000 to 5400 m. The ferrata will serve to connect the glacier slope to the highest Himalayan hut that will be built on Tashi Lapcha.

The hut is part of the project “Project Austria Hut” and is about to build at an altitude of 5800 m, on the idea of ​​the non-profit StepZero.One and funded by the Austrian entrepreneur and mountaineer Josef Einwaller, with the objective to support the predominantly tourist economy of these territories.

The territory of the “Jobo Garu 2017” expedition is contiguous to the “Bonatti Path” map, which the Explora Association has created with the Gran Sasso Park and the Monti della Laga, and ideally combines Amatrice with the Himalayas through the Gran Sasso d’Italia. The team of Explora, thanks to the collaboration of Amatrice’s CAI, brings to Nepal a tile of the Lazio town destroyed by the earthquake that will be placed on the roof of the highest refuge in the world and the flag of Parco Gran Sasso as ambassador in the territory of Himalaya.

«The realization of the refuge will take place thanks to the commitment of the Austrian entrepreneur and mountaineer Josef Einwaller, the benefactor of Innsbruck – said Davide Peluzzi – the materials will be carried in part on the shoulder with the help of the sherpa of the place and partly with the helicopters. The structure will be the basis of scientific instruments, as well as a haven of refuge and tourist reference and for the study of glaciers».

In continuity with previous missions in Nepal, Team Explora will continue the bioanthropological researches of the Laboratory of Molecular Anthropology of the University of Bologna.

In addition, the works of the Italian artist Daniela Savini were brought to Nepal: these are engravings with some photographic images made during previous shipments in remote Rolwaling. The works will be exhibited at Kathmandu at the Vajra Books bookstore and at the Beding Temple, recently rebuilt after the catastrophic earthquake struck Nepal in April 2015.

The exhibition of the works at Beding will be permanent and at 3700m altitude, it will become the world’s tallest show of engravings.

*Explora Nunaat International is a non-profit exploration and research association in extreme environments born in 2007. In 2008, on the occasion of the Polar International Year, the Association was rewarded for shipping to Arctic (Greenland) with a medal and with a letter of commendation signed by the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano. In 2011, the Association carried out humanitarian expeditions in Himalayas, called Earth Mater. On that occasion, cooperative relations with the Government of Nepal were undertaken.
