Last week, we reported on the drone footage that led to the rescue of mountaineer Rick Allen on Broad Peak (8047m) earlier this month.
Allen had fallen from an ice cliff while returning from his solo ascent and presumed dead by his teammates. He was knocked unconscious and suffered cuts as a result of his fall.
A Japanese base camp cook noticed Allen’s rucksack high on the mountain before he was located by the drone operator, who helped guide rescuers to his position.
The footage was taken by Polish climber, Bartek Bargiel, who was on K2 to film his brother Andrzej in his subsequently successful attempt to ski down the mountain.
Below, the actual footage.
