We now have the first winter K2 summit photo, which shows Sona Sherpa alone with the famous pyramidal shadow of the mountain stretching for miles into the distance behind him as the sun sets.
Chhang Dawa Sherpa said yesterday that eight of the successful summit team would stay at Camp 3, while Sona Sherpa and Galje Sherpa continue down to Base Camp. We now understand all 10 have stayed at Camp 3.
More to follow.

Sona Sherpa and Galje Sherpa are down to BC already as per their instagram. I wonder why the group split up.
Thanks. Update coming shortly.
Like him or hate him Nims and the team sure get shit done! Looking forward to hearing the full story from them with regards to the style of climb (02 etc). Either way a historical momonet for not just mountaineering, but also the country of Nepal. Safe journey to basecamp!
Is it me or does this photo look fake?
I don’t know about that, but at about the same time this pose was made, client Sergi Mingote lie dead at the bottom of the mountain.
What happened to Sergi was a tragedy but are they not supposed to take summit pictures because of that tragedy? Any true climber would agree that this is what should have been done regardless. They know the risks.
It’s a GoPro lens distortion.
Thanks, Alex. I take back my words.
Absolutely delighted to see it was Nepalese sherpas got there first. They will finally get the recognition they truley deserve as being extremely competent climbers
Great photo congrats, k2 is the tuffest summit. Safe adventure ya’ll
