K2: Video of Nepalis’ First Footsteps on the Summit

Nirmal Purja has shared a much-awaited video of the Nepali team’s last steps to the summit of winter K2 last week.

The brief clip shows Purja, second from right, in red, without oxygen, and the five or six others in view with O2 masks.

As reported, they trudged the last few steps singing Nepal’s anthem, although a canned version soon replaces their muffled voices. The climber filming the moment seems to be holding an invisible selfie stick, and that is in fact what he is doing.

Amazing, on the summit of K2 in the dead of Winter, and the Sherpa on the right in the yellow down suit is not wearing his gloves.
