Romanian climber Horia Colibășanu and Slovak Peter Hámor reached Manaslu summit (8,163m) today, May 10, at 1.00 o’clock, Nepal time.
“SUMMIT! 1.00 p.m. Nepal. Winds 40-50km/h”, Horia Colibășanu texted via the sat phone today after-noon. “It was the most exhausting summit day”, the Romanian climber said.
The two climbers started the summit-bit at midnight, from the altitude of 7,100m, on the standard route (N-E), opened by the Japanese in 1956.
Colibășanu and Hámor reached BC on April 14 and started for the summit climb on May 4 after fixing the route till near C2 (6,400m).
According to the initial plan, the team will now move to the Northside, to attempt a new route.
UPDATE May 11: The team descended safely to BC. The climbers will make a decision about the new route attempt on the Northside depending on weather forecast and climbing conditions.
