Fulfilling a promise to Doug Scott

Chris Bonington Vows to Fulfil Promise to Late Friend: This week, Chris Bonington celebrated his 90th birthday. He marked the day by committing to fulfill a promise to the late Doug Scott. Scott started the Himalayan Sherpa Community project before passing in 2020, and Bonington plans to complete it. The goal is to restore the Sherpa Heritage House, which was wrecked by an earthquake almost a decade ago.

Husband’s Final Act: Last week, Australian authorities confirmed they found a human cadaver inside of a crocodile. They believe it is the body of Dave Hogbin.

Hogbin was fishing with his wife and three sons when the river bank collapsed and he fell into the water. His wife tried to pull him back up but was forced to let go when she also started slipping. “His last act was to not pull me in with him,” his wife said.

The North Face of the Eiger

Vanhee and Caldwell Ascend Eiger’s Odyssee in a Day: On July 30, Siebe Vanhee and Tommy Caldwell made a successful one-day ascent of Odyssee on the North Face of the Eiger. The pair partnered up for the summer and started by climbing several routes on Schwartze Wand in Germany. Then they wanted a bigger challenge. Vanhee describes the ascent.
