Avalanche Kills Guide in the Andes

An avalanche has killed local guide Edgar Huaman Asis on Nevado Huascaran (6,757m) in the Peruvian  Andes.

Huaman Asis was with two French clients and two porters between camp 1 and camp 2, in the zone known as La Canaleta. They were crossing an ice bridge when the avalanche hit the group.

Blocks of ice hit Huaman Asis and swept him into a crevasse. The other members of the team were not seriously injured.

Local media reports that rescue services have recovered his body.
