Everest Rescue Drama Increases

Tragedy struck the Nepal Army team during their descent from the summit of Everest. Captain Dipendra Singh Khatri is still being helped down the mountain, while another team member, Phurba Sherpa, may have died below Camp 4, according to The Himalayan Times. Sources in Base Camp have not yet confirmed the fatality.

The news remains confusing. Captain Khatri spent one whole night in the open near the South Summit and other members of the team might be feeling sick. At last word, the rescue patrol was approaching Camp 2. We will wait for updated news tomorrow.

Should the worst news prove true, Phurba Sherpa would become the fifth person to perish on Everest this year.

Meanwhile, Sajid Sadpara is safely back in Base Camp after climbing Everest without oxygen, Naila Kiani confirmed. Kiani and fellow Pakistani Nadia Asaz are resting back in Camp 2 after summiting Lhotse today.
