ExWeb’s Links of the Week

Here at ExWeb, when we’re not outdoors, we get our adventure fix by exploring social media and the wider interweb. Sometimes we’re a little too plugged in, and browsing interesting stories turns from minutes into hours. To nourish your own adventure fix, here are some of the best links we’ve discovered this week…

Higher Ground: Nearly a year after Tom Ballard perished on Nanga Parbat, this essay recounts the final days of both Ballard and his mother, Alison Hargreaves.

Couple Goals: It’s rare for partners to share the same adventure goals, but for one Seattle couple in their late 40s, skiing unguided to the South Pole was part of their shared bucket list.

Mont Macron: The forthright French president, Emmanuel Macron, has pledged to create a new reserve around the overcrowded Mont Blanc. No mention yet if the Italians are on board with these plans.

Marc-Andre’s Vision: In tribute to the late Marc-André Leclerc, his former partner Brette Harrington has put up a new route on Torre Egger, along with two other climbers. Leclerc first spotted the line in 2016.

Expedition Finse: This weekend sees the annual expedition festival in Finse, on the edge of the famous Hardangervidda Plateau in Norway. Talks aplenty from polar stalwarts Borge Ousland, Geoff Somers, Eric Phillips and even an appearance from former ExWeb owners Tina and Tom Sjogren.
