Fay Manners and Michelle Dvorak Reported Missing In Garhwal Himalaya

Elite alpinists Fay Manners of the UK and Michelle Dvorak of the U.S. have been missing for over 36 hours at 6,500m on Chaukhamba III. The 6,974m peak lies in the Gangotri group of mountains in India’s Garhwal Himalaya.

The two women started their expedition from Delhi on September 15. Two days ago, they  reportedly lost crucial equipment near Chaukhamba III when one of their bags fell into a deep gorge, leaving the climbers stranded, according to the timesofindia.

Local authorities yesterday called in two search helicopters, but despite frantic efforts, searchers failed to find any trace of Manners and Dvorak by Friday evening.

The region’s disaster management officer, N.K. Joshi told the Times of India that the search would resume today, Saturday.

We will update as more news becomes available.
