The rope-fixing team assigned by the China-Tibet Mountaineering Association reached the summit today in beautiful but windy weather.
Adrian Ballinger of Alpenglow Expeditions reported the news to ExplorersWeb from Advanced Base Camp. His team is celebrating the puja ceremony today and will head for the North Col (at 7,000m) tomorrow. See Ballinger’s description of the North Side Everest route in our Climbers’ Guide.
More wind in the forecast
Lukas Furtenbach’s flash expedition on the North Side is already at the North Col, on their only acclimatization round before the summit push. They return to Base Camp today and will go for the summit as soon as the weather allows. Lukas Furtenbach told ExplorersWeb a windy spell is expected to begin tomorrow and continue until May 16.
The Climbalaya team is currently on its final rotation to 7,400-7,500m. After resting back in ABC and waiting for the weather, they too will be ready to give the summit a try, Dawa Sherpa of Climbalaya told ExplorersEWeb.
