Four Injured in Cable Car Crash at Austrian Ski Resort

Four members of a Danish family were seriously injured when their cable car at Austria’s Hochoetz Ski Resort fell seven meters to the ground.

Hochoetz is one of many ski resorts in the Austrian Tyrol. A father, his son and daughter, and their uncle, were aboard a gondola at the so-called Acherkogelbahn lift.  According to preliminary investigations, no mechanical or human failure caused the accident, but simply bad luck. A tree fell right onto the gondola and snapped the piece connecting it to the cable. It then plummeted some seven meters.

The rescue wascomplex due to the steep and rocky terrain, but all the injured family members were airlifted to the hospital. One of the adults was in critical condition.

None of the other gondolas on their way up at the same time were damaged.
