This afternoon, a huge avalanche swept through Camp 1 and across the Khumbu Icefall on Everest. Latest reports suggest that there were no casualties, as many teams have finished for the season and the icefall is usually avoided in the afternoon.
Today’s occurrence brought back memories of 2015 and the deadliest event in Everest history, when 22 people lost their lives from an avalanche at Base Camp. This surpassed the 2014 disaster where collapsing seracs from the western flank of Everest killed 16 Sherpas.
