Are you hardcore enough to surf in the freezing waters of Minnesota — in winter?
Because that’s exactly what these surfer-dudes get up to in the latest Vice mini-documentary.
They bring exactly the kind of surfer-dude charm you’d expect from Southern California but in a stark white land of snow and ice. A land where they launch from snow into Lake Superior and work harder to surf on the reduced buoyancy of fresh water.
And of course, the ice beards of Surfer Dan and his compadre are certainly worthy of admiration. In fact, having a head full of frosty facial hair has a long and glorious history in photography.
But wearing one while surfing in the subzero temperatures of Upper Peninsula Michigan? That’s the stuff of legend.
