K2 Breaking News: Sergi Mingote Injured – Rescue Ongoing

While all eyes look to the summit of K2, an S.O.S. call has been issued from lower down on the mountain. Sergi Mingote has suffered a fall between Camp 1 and Advanced Base Camp. The news has not come from K2 Base Camp but was shared by the Italian-Spanish team on Manaslu. Fernando J. Perez, a journalist accompanying Alex Txikon, has reported that Mingote is unconcious and a rescue and evacuation is ongoing.

Perez wrote that Simone Moro is helping speed up the arrangements (via satphone from Nepal) to have helicopters sent to BC as soon as possible.

What about Mohr? I thought they were together at C3 last night so likely started descending togehther with Tamara? All fingers crossed for Mingote and all the other brave beings up there.

Unfortunately, his death is being reported as of 35 minutes ago. So sad to hear on such a historic day. RIP Sergi.

Of course, it’s impossible for a website to compete with the speed of social media, but we’re doing the best we can to get the information up as quickly as possible. In this case, we knew that it was a fatality rather than an injury shortly after publishing this story, but had to hold back until official word came from Dawa, to ensure that Sergi’s family had first been notified.
