K2 — On the Eve of His 49th Birthday, Urubko Keeps Driving

Denis Urubko arrived at K2 Base Camp yesterday. By this morning, he had already scuttled up to Camp 2.

After a brief rest, Urubko continued to Camp 3. He is now well on his way to Camp 4, climbing alone, without supplemental oxygen or porters. Whew!

Tomorrow, Urubko turns 49. If he has no problems on the last section of K2, he can celebrate his birthday from 8,611m.

We are also waiting for news about Benjamin Vedrines and Lakpa Dendi. Dendi’s tracker stopped yesterday after midnight, at higher Camp 2.  Meanwhile, Mingma David Sherpa is already back at 5,000m, while Chhiring Sherpa has reached Base Camp at 4,900m.
