Local Brothers Complete All Patagonian Spires in Their Early 20s

Tomas and Pedro Odell made the most of the latest weather window in Patagonia last week to summit Torre Egger. With it, the two young climbers, just 20 and 22 years old and born in El Chalten, have now climbed all the spires of the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre massifs.

Bauti Gregorini and Fabian Buhl joined the Odell brothers on the climb. Earlier, in December 2024, the Odells and Gregorini attempted Torre Egger but had to turn around just one pitch shy of the top due to bad conditions. Early in 2026, a new weather window meant a new opportunity.

This time, they added Fabian Buhl and worked in two rope teams to increase their overall speed. They set off on January 6 at 3:30 am.

Longer than expected

“We decided to attempt Torre Egger, this time approaching it from Col Standhardt and Col de Sueños until the Spigolo dei Bimbi, which leads to the summit of Punta Herron,” Gregorini wrote.

“We reached the base of the mushroom [on Punta Herron] with high hopes of making it to the summit of Torre Egger the same day,” Fabi Buhl reported. “Unfortunately, progress through the mushroom was very slow.”

“We had to switch leads while digging a tunnel until we finally reached some decent ice. By then, the ascent of Punta Herron had taken much longer than expected, so we prepared a platform and bivvied on the summit.”

The following morning, the climbers rappelled into Col de la Luz and then set off up the Espejo del Viento route to the summit of Torre Egger. They then rappelled down the Titanic route.

Utterly exhausted

“Back from two days of activity and utterly exhausted,” Gregorini wrote on Instagram, where he also posted images of the climb. “I couldn’t stop thinking about how incredibly well all turned out. We chose the right goal, had the right weather, and the right conditions.”

Torre Egger was the only point that Pedro and Tomas had not yet climbed in the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre groups.

“Completing all the peaks of the Fitz Roy and Torre skyline at such a young age is truly impressive,” wrote Fabian Buhl on Instagram.
