The Weather Outside Is Frightful: A New Winter Route In Scotland

Scotland in winter isn’t exactly at the top of bucket lists for travel, but for alpinist Greg Boswell, it’s a climbing playground.

In a video on Instagram, the talented ice climber recently showcased his love for brutal winter conditions. It’s the kind of weather that would make most people run for the nearest fireplace, or call for immediate rescue.

With Dean Martin’s timeless rendition of “Let It Snow!” playing in the background, Boswell films partner Guy Robertson battling the climb’s crux in a torrent of falling snow and ice.

Not only did they ultimately finish the climb, but it’s a first ascent on Cul Mor that they named “Vortex”.

Boswell has worked hard this month in Scotland’s frozen wonderland.

With partner Jacob Cook, Boswell also posted some stellar photos of an earlier outing in Lochnagar. The climbing looks just as technical and profoundly cold, though without the accompanying blizzard to add to the enjoyment.

“It’s always super fun to venture into overhanging terrain like this!” Boswell wrote on Instagram.

Most people — and even many other climbers — will probably just take his word for it.
