Antoine Pecher and Eric Jamet of France are in the Annapurna region to attempt a record wingsuit flight from the summit of 6,983m Lamjung.
From the summit of Lamjung (sometimes known as Lamjung Himal), they will jump and try to break the world record for the longest jump (12km) and the highest wingsuit jump — over a 5,000-meter vertical drop, Jamet told Le Dauphiné Libéré.
According to Peakvisor, Lamjung Himal is a subpeak of Annapurna II and the southeasternmost peak in the Annapurna range. Derrick Chamberlain and Phillip Neame made the first ascent in 1974. It is unknown whether Pecher and Jamet will attempt a new route or repeat the classic line of ascent.
Pioneering flights
Since they first teamed up for a remarkable wingsuit flight from the Trango’s Nameless Tower in the Karakoram, the French pair have achieved some significant first climbs and wingsuit flights, mostly in the Alps. This year, they did the first wingsuit flights from the Aiguille d’Argentiere and the Aiguille Verte. They also own a construction company in the valley.
Here’s a video featuring comments from two special friends, Benjamin Vedrines and Nicolas Jean, who are currently attempting to climb the north face of Jannu East.
