On Sunday, John Snorri flew to Islamabad to begin his winter K2 expedition. The Icelander obtained his climbing permit in August, and porters carried his equipment to Base Camp weeks ago.
The team includes two high altitude porters, plus Muhammad Ali Sadpara and his son Sajid. Ali Sadpara participated in the first winter ascent of Nanga Parbat and has summited Nanga on four other occasions. He has also climbed GI, Broad Peak, K2, Lhotse, Makalu and Manaslu. Sajid Ali topped K2 last year.
Snorri has shared a six-minute video about his previous attempt on K2 last winter. The main question is, will they cooperate with the other teams or climb independently? There is also no info yet on whether they plan to use supplementary O2.
