Russian scientists plucked from Arctic Ice

Planned evacuation took place after holes and cracks appeared in the ice, making staying put dangerous
Russian researchers have been conducting experiments on drifting ice stations near the North Pole since the 1930s and when the ice starts to break up, which can happen periodically, the tests are put on hold.

This year, after cracks started to appear, the order was given to evacuate the ‘North Pole-2015’ icy laboratory but this time the exodus was caught on camera.

Scientists working on the site ‘constantly fell into thawed holes’ and cracks appeared under the scientific station, leading it to be abandoned in August.
