Once a rarely visited 8000’er because of its complexity and avalanche-prone slopes, Annapurna has become a rather crowded place. Good weather and plenty of ropes and oxygen allowed no less than 32 climbers to enjoy the view from the top today!

Nirmal Purja, aiming to summit all 14x8000ers in seven months, was one of the lucky ones. The clock starts now ticking on the rest of his challenge. He may have shared summit hugs with Tunc Findik, now close to becoming the first Turkish climber to complete all 14×8000’ers. Don Bowie, climbing without supplementary Oxygen, became the first Canadian to summit Annapurna, a mountain he knows only too well after he took part in the expedition and the subsequent rescue attempt of Spanish Iñaki Ochoa de Olza back in 2008. That joint effort gained the unanimous applause of the climbing community and the general public worldwide.

Here is the list of today’s successful climbers, published by Seven Summits treks:

Correction to your article:
Don Bowie is a Canadian. He climbed as an independent climber. He bought into Shared Summits Base Camp Services and shared permit only. We think it is noteworthy that Don is the first Canadian to summit Annapurna, and without oxygen. Don’s Support Team
