Poor weather has delayed summit plans on K2 for at least 24 hours. The first teams are now expected to reach the top on August 1.
The optimistic forecasts that prompted the climbers’ push seem to have failed again. “Speed” Dawa Sherpa, working for Seven Summit Treks, has shared a video about the far from ideal conditions:
The Karakorum Expeditions team, including Juan Pablo Toro of Argentina, is in Camp 1.
Masherbrum
The Colombian team has called off its attempt on Masherbrum. The climbers reported constant bad weather and open crevasses on the glacier. They managed to fix ropes on the route and pitch three camps, but then an avalanche buried much of the rope, leaving them with no time left to re-fix the route.
