Unsupported Brits quit after 3 Rescues

Brits take on Iceland

(Telegraph/UK) A group of young British adventurers trekking across Iceland for a documentary have been criticised after local volunteers had to rescue them three times.

Angus Dowie, Charlie Smith, Archie Wilson, all aged 19, and Stefan Rijnbeek, 20, planned to be the first to cross Iceland unsupported in winter, filming the entire expedition.

But on Tuesday they were finally forced to abort the trip after search and rescue units, funded by local charity donations, were once again called to their aid.

An Icelandic MP for the Progressive Party, Karl Garðarsson, wrote on Facebook: “This is becoming an expensive joke.”
