They’re Still Stuck in a Storm, High on Baruntse

After summiting 7,129m Baruntse alpine style yesterday, a fatigued Marek Holecek and Radoslav Groh barely managed to get down to their bivouac at 7,000m, in zero visibility. Today, the climbers seem to have managed to descend just another 100m.

Holecek’s terse report:

White darkness
We are imprisoned here by the weather. Another bivouac on the ridge of Baruntse at 6,900m. It is snowing, it is blowing, and there is white darkness all around. We would need three hours of good visibility and we would be safely down. We will try to descend at night. It should snow until Saturday. I will send…messages as long as the phone battery works.
