Dhaulagiri Summit Push; A Second Skier Appears

The rope-fixing team is heading toward the summit of Dhaulagiri at this moment. We don’t know who else is with them, although judging from his past 8,000m climbs, skier Andrzej Bargiel is likely not far behind.

Makalu Lakpa, the climbing leader of the 14 Peaks Expeditions team, reported he is at Camp 1 today and confirmed the rope fixers are 400m beyond Camp 3 and on their way to the top.

Makalu Lakpa of 14 Peaks Expeditions posted this screenshot of his tracker, locating him at Camp 1 on Dhaulagiri.

A second skier

Andrzej Bargiel has posted some photos from Base Camp, but the exact date they were taken is not confirmed. Bargiel won’t be the only skier on Dhaulagiri. Spanish mountain guide Borja Real is also intending to climb without supplemental oxygen and ski down to Base Camp. Real has been in Nepal since mid-September, but we just heard of him today, via the Alpymon blog.
