Weekend Warm-Up: No Turning Back – Hansjörg Auer

This week, ExWeb reported that Austrian mountaineer Hansjörg Auer is on his way to 7,181m Lupghar Sar West in Pakistan’s Karakorum.

Auer is best known for his under-the-radar 2007 free solo of the south face of the Marmolada in the Italian Dolomites.  This was one of the most impressive big wall free solos, along with Alex Honnold’s 2017 success on El Capitan’s Freerider, in Yosemite. Auer also nailed a first ascent of Kunyang Chhish East (7,400 m), one of the last great problems in the Karakorum.

This week’s film depicts Auer’s early years, his growing passion for solo climbing as he gained confidence in his abilities and his recent move to the high ranges.
