When David Sharp was left to die by 40 climbers on Mount Everest, who clipped past him on the rope to reach the summit, it was claimed a rescue on that altitude is virtually impossible.
Several accounts have since proved this statement wrong. Adding to the collection, today Montagna features an Everest rescue, performed at 8500 meters by a team of 4 sherpa from the Seven Summits outfit. The rescue, reported by Messner, involved a Sherpa and his client, left badly frostbitten and unconscious by late descent in bad weather from Everest summit.
