Ben Fogle, the United Nations Patron of the Wilderness and well-known British TV personality, summited Everest via the South Col route at 7:30 am this morning (May 16).
This news comes over a week after Fogle’s climbing partner, former Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton, had to quit because of difficulty acclimatizing. The pair were climbing to raise money for the British Red Cross.
Fogle was guided by British climber Kenton Cool, who has now notched 13 successful Everest summits, including the triple crown of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. In doing so, Cool has broken his own British record for the most summits of the world’s highest peak.
At the same time, a serious situation is developing on the North side of the mountain where Sherpas and clients are having to turn back due to 10 of 39 oxygen bottle regulators failing.
