Chinese Politics Roundup
Last week we reported that the Korean Chinese Lhotse South Wall expedition was refused services by orders of the Chinese government. The event was believed to have been influenced by China/Korean world politics.
Today Stefan Nestler reports from Germany he has confirmed from several sources that China currently does not allow tourists to enter Tibet if their passport carries a Pakistan visa issued in the past three years.
Also today, Spanish Desnivel reports Chinese authorities denied Catalan ultra-athlete and mountaineer Kilian Jornet access to Tibet in summer. To avoid crowding, the climber wanted to attempt a speed-climb of the peak during off season. The Everest speed attempt (his third since 2015) will therefore take place this spring, again from the Rongbuk monastery on the Tibetan side.
