Denis Urubko Calls Off Rakhiot Peak

Rakhiot Peak, one of the points along the Nanga Parbat massif, has proved tough for Denis Urubko, his wife Pipi Cardell, and good friend Maksim Berngard. The team reached base camp on November 6 for an off-season attempt on the 7,070m summit.

“We are calling the ascent off at 5,100m,” Urubko told Desnivel. “Avalanche risk and crevasses made the climb too dangerous: Maksim fell in one and hurt his foot, and Pipi [Cardell] is sick,” Urubko texted. He noted that they’re already on their way back to town.
