2013 Piolet d’Or Asia: Young-Ho Nam received Grand Prix Award

Young-Ho Nam, who led teams on desert crossings though the Empty Quarter (Oman - UAE) and Great Basin (USA), received the Grand Prix Award at the 2013 Piolet d’Or Asia Award Ceremony yesterday evening (18:00 - 21:00), November 14th. The Ceremony was held at the King Se-Jong’s Cultural Center in Seoul.


Piolet d’Or Asia were given to two teams 

- Expedition from Japan to Puscanturpa in Peru

- Expedition from Japan to Kyshar in Nepal.


Golden Climbing Shoes for the best climber in sports climbing was given to Sang-Won Shon.


The prize for the best exploration was given to Young-Ho Nam from South Korea.


The organizers said, Piolet d’Or Asia is for expeditions in alpine style expedition(s).


This year, the late Young-Seok Park was selected in the climbing category as the best contributing climber. He climbed 14 peaks over 8000 m, climbed the Seven Summits and did the Three Poles (South Pole, North Pole, Everest). Mr. Park's widow received the prize on behalf of him.
